Vodafone brings 4G to Dunedin

Vodafone brings 4G to Dunedin

Dunedin’s mobile network gets a significant speed boost today, with the launch of 4G mobile technology in the city.

Vodafone’s 4G network is up to 10 times faster than standard 3G services*, allowing customers to stream, download, upload, browse and game faster than ever before. On 4G, customers can load web pages instantly, load apps at lightning speed, and upload and download attachments, books and music in seconds.

Sandra Pickering, Vodafone Technology Director, says 4G is changing the way we use our mobiles.

“Our 4G launch over 12 months ago marked a new era for mobile users. Today, Vodafone’s 4G is available to over 1.54 million Kiwis in 39 locations – including Dunedin – allowing consumers and businesses to do much more, faster, on the move.

“This year, our network priority is to deliver the benefits of superfast mobile to more of New Zealand – and innovative ways for our customers to make the most of their 4G experience.”

Sandra continues: “Kiwis want to use their smartphones in the same way they use their broadband at home – for activities like shopping, web browsing and watching videos – and 4G makes this possible.”

Dunedin South MP, Clare Curran says the arrival of 4G in Dunedin is a major milestone for the city.

“I’m pleased to see Vodafone bringing 4G to provincial New Zealand. 4G is incredibly enabling technology with huge benefits for the people who visit, live, study and do business in Dunedin. Being able to offer 4G, particularly in areas where our city and facilities are on show, adds an extra dimension of access to content and information.”

Vodafone 4G is available to nearly 70 percent of Dunedin’s population today and will also go live in Napier, Hastings and Nelson this month.

Kiwis wanting to experience the speed of 4G will need a 4G-capable device with the latest software, a qualifying plan and be in a 4G coverage area. The device seamlessly switches to Vodafone’s next fastest 3G speeds when customers leave the 4G coverage area.

Vodafone offers the largest range of 4G-capable devices at a range of price points – 27 now, including the recently launched Samsung GALAXY S5. The Sony Xperia Z2 is coming soon, exclusive to Vodafone.
