New role for NZ Teachers Council Director

New role for NZ Teachers Council Director

New Zealand Teachers Council director for the last 8-years, Dr Peter Lind, is to be the new Registrar of the South Australia Teacher Registration Board. He will take up the role on 1 September this year.

Teachers Council chair Alison McAlpine said Dr Lind had made a tremendous contribution during his time at the Council.

“Our loss will be South Australia’s gain” she said. “Peter has built this Council up and led it very effectively through a period of important change. And in doing so he earned the respect of the education sector and great loyalty from this Council and the people who work here.”

Dr Lind joined the Council as director in 2002 as it transitioned from the old Teachers Registration Board. During his time at the Council he was instrumental in developing new criteria for registered teachers and in establishing real credibility for the new Council with all of the key players in the education sector.

Ms McAlpine said Dr Lind’s professional leadership had been very effective, especially in the area of teacher induction and mentoring and in establishing clear standards and a framework within which teaching performance could be judged.

“Peter has built up a great deal of international credibility to the point where the Teachers Council is highly thought of overseas – in particular, Australia and the United Kingdom,” she said.

“And his work in building fair and robust processes for teacher conduct and competency issues has been crucial.”

Ms McAlpine said Dr Lind had worked tirelessly to improve professional standards for teaching in this country.

“It has been difficult work at times and Peter never veered from his commitment to teachers and to the learners they teach. He is held in very high regard and deserves the most glowing acknowledgement of the work he has done here,” she said.
