$4million accommodation block opened at CTC Aviation
Hamilton, 6 May 2014 – A $4million expansion at CTC Aviation’s Crew Accommodation Centre, Clearways, was officially opened by Waipa district mayor Jim Mylchreest in Hamilton yesterday afternoon.
CTC Aviation chief operating officer ab initio training (AsiaPac), Peter Stockwell, said the expansion, consisting of an additional 72 ensuite bedrooms and supporting facilities, was added to support CTC Aviation’s steadily growing number of airline pilot cadets.
“When Clearways opened in 2006, CTC Aviation was training around 130 airline pilots at any one time. This year we are expecting a record 250-300 cadets to train with us here in New Zealand,” he said.
“The Clearways expansion achieves CTC Aviation’s goal to house all trainees together on one purpose-built campus. This fosters mutual support, social interaction and camaraderie.
“This really is an exciting step in the development of our Hamilton-based facilities and provides associated additional benefits to the local economy. We are now well-equipped to handle our planned growth in cadet numbers,” he said.
The new building is one of six crew accommodation buildings at Clearways. Each Clearways building is named after a famous classic airliner: Comet, Trident, Concorde, Britannia and Viscount with Vanguard being the name for the new extension.
The Vanguard expansion at Clearways brings the total number of bedrooms in the complex to 200.
In addition to the new Vanguard building, a new fit-out in one of the adjacent buildings has created a modern fitness centre – this doubles the indoor workout space at Clearways. Each Vanguard cadet room has an ensuite bathroom, kitchenette, and study area and all cadet rooms are air conditioned with TV and telephone.
“Our airline cadets work incredibly hard during their training and the expansion of Clearways provides all of our cadets with a great place to study and relax in their downtime,” said Mr Stockwell.
Clearways is situated eight kilometres from the company’s Crew Training Centre, adjacent to Hamilton Airport and only a 15 minute drive from Hamilton City.
