Auckland Airport gathers Asian travel industry experts

Auckland Airport gathers Asian travel industry experts for annual Asia Summit

Auckland Airport’s annual Asia Industry Summit will see a host of industry experts provide unique insight into New Zealand’s key Asian markets.

Following on from the success of the inaugural Asia Summit held last year, the 2014 Asia Summit is a high level one day conference that is now a key industry event. The summit will focus on High Opportunity Targets and Actions (HOTA) in Asia, including China, India and Indonesia.

The summit will feature key international speakers, including Peter Colahan, also known in Australia as “Mr India”. Peter has been involved in the tourism industry for more than 25 years, working as Managing Director for VFS Global, an Indian visa processing company, as well as establishing several tour agencies focussed on both group, incentive and luxury Free Independent Travellers from India.

Also speaking will be Air New Zealand’s Asia General Manager Sandeep Bahl, tourism industry expert Dr. Pawel Grochowicz, media commentator Fran O’Sullivan, Shambueel Eaqub from NZIER andDavid James from one of Australia’s leading tourism organisations, Tangalooma Island Resort.

Auckland Airport has also invited a number of key tourism and strategy experts, including Trevor and Lilly Lee from TravConsult and Graham Hills from leading travel metasearch engine ‘Wego’, to speak at both the Asia Summit and the following TRENZ Auckland Airport International Speaker Series.

Glenn Wedlock, Auckland Airport’s Senior Advisor – Strategy and Markets, says the summit is part of the airport’s ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger’ business strategy to increase New Zealand’s share from high growth markets.

“This summit will help the New Zealand tourism industry gain valuable insight into some of our fastest growing Asian travel markets,” says Mr Wedlock. “This will include key insights into new cultural trends and opportunities and how to make the most of new distribution and marketing channels.”

“Auckland Airport will also be releasing an updated set of tourism growth ambitions under the banner of Ambition 2025. These ambitions will articulate how New Zealand could achieve the Tourism Industry Association’s Tourism 2025 objective to grow tourism value by six per cent per year through to 2025.”

“Also new to this year’s summit are two debate sessions which will focus on increasing New Zealand’s share of new emerging markets. These sessions will see industry experts debate the topics of ‘Japan / Korea, harvest or grow the strategy for New Zealand?’ and ‘India or Indonesia? Choosing the right target market to focus on’.”

The one day summit is being held immediately prior to TRENZ, the Tourism Industry Association’s major showcase event, and includes networking sessions and panel discussions on key issues.

The summit is to be held at the Pullman Hotel Auckland on 16 May 2014. The Auckland Airport International Speaker Series is being held every morning before TRENZ commences at The Cloud, from8am on the 19th to 21st May.
