AUCKLAND, New Zealand 5 May 2014 – The All New Transit Cargo and Tourneo Custom are now rolling into New Zealand, offering advanced technology, contemporary design and clever, practical interiors.
Originally launched in 1965, the Ford Transit has set the standard for commercial vehicles. It is one of the most established and successful vehicles in the industry with more than seven million Transits produced to date.
Transit Cargo
The Transit Cargo, in van configuration, is a significant upgrade of the classic model large van. With an even larger cargo capacity than the previous model, the Transit Cargo provides professional tradesmen and commercial fleet customers with unmatched fuel economy, innovative new configurations and practical versatility in New Zealand’s commercial vehicle market.
In addition the Transit Cargo differentiates itself within the segment by offering standard fit cruise control and best in class fuel economy across the range and on the vans a rear camera, front and rear parking sensors.
“Drivers and companies should expect more from their company commercial vehicles, including better safety and increased capability but also smart features that make the driver’s job easier day to day,” said Corey Holter, Managing Director Ford New Zealand. “The all new Transit Cargo was designed to meet and exceed those expectations. It’s yet another vehicle from Ford that raises the bar in its segment.”
All variants of the Transit Cargo are powered by Ford’s proven 2.2L Duratorq TDCi diesel engine. This advanced, highly fuel-efficient engine is designed for durability. Partnering 114kW and 385Nm of torque with a 6-speed manual, rear wheel drive transmission, Transit Cargo offers maximum pulling power, outstanding fuel economy, low emissions and efficient warm-up even in the coldest conditions. Auto-Start-Stop is standard across the range, reducing fuel consumption and emissions even further.

The Tourneo Custom takes the best things about Ford people-movers from around the globe and enhances them, offering generous space and comfort for up to nine people and all their gear and all beneath a stylish new exterior.
The luxurious interior has innovative flexible rear seats, capable of more than 30 different configurations. There are also smart features like the Ford SYNC as well as the integrated, fold-away roof racks. And the vehicle’s aerodynamic design, economical engine and fuel-saving technologies, like Auto-Start-Stop, make it one of the most efficient people movers now available in New Zealand.
The Tourneo Custom is extremely cost-effective for business use or as a safe, luxurious way of carrying family, friends and all their gear. The vehicle is designed to protect all passengers, having achieved a maximum 5-star safety rating by Euro NCAP with an array of safety features including six airbags as standard and ISOFIX child seat attachments.
“The Tourneo Custom is impressive in its ability to please everyone from the driver to rear passengers,” said Holter. “It’s great to sit in and great to drive. With five star safety, there is no safer passenger van in New Zealand. And the generous space for luggage and gear, even with a full complement of passengers, make it very practical. Our early customers have been very impressed with the overall package the Tourneo offers.”
