Christchurch City Council wins Swimming New Zealand Quality Swim School Award

The Christchurch City Council has won the Quality Swim School of the Year Award at the State Insurance Swimming New Zealand awards held in Auckland over the weekend.

Christchurch City Council Recreation and Sport Manager John Filsell said the award recognised the quality and achievement of the Council’s Swimsmart and Swimsafe programmes and the contribution they make to the community.

“This is national recognition that we are the best in the business when it comes to learning to swim,” he said.

Swimsmart is the Council’s Learn to Swim programme for all ages and abilities, and is run by tutors in the Council’s recreation and sport centres. Swimsafe is the council’s Learn to Swim programme for school groups. Tutors teach children how to swim and stay safe in all types of water. Children also practise in inflatable boats and learn about wearing lifejackets.
