2014 APRA Silver Scroll Awards to be held in Wellington
APRA AMCOS are proud to announce that the 2014 APRA Silver Scroll Awards will be held in Wellington on Thursday 30th October.
Now in its 49th year, the APRA Silver Scroll Awards is a highly-anticipated annual event that recognises and celebrates outstanding achievement in the craft of songwriting. The event is traditionally held in Auckland; however this year the awards will be making a welcome return to Wellington.
“I’m delighted that the APRA Silver Scroll Awards are making a return to the Creative Capital.” says Wellington’s Mayor Celia Wade-Brown. “The awards have a long history of recognising excellence, and it’s Wellington’s pleasure to welcome the awards back to our vibrant music community for 2014”.
The decision to host the 2014 awards in Wellington was made to extend the reach of the awards to APRA AMCOS’ members nationwide.
“Music is synonymous with Wellington – the capital city is renowned for its vital music scene and close-knit music community.” says APRA AMCOS’ Anthony Healey “We are extremely pleased to be able to present the awards in Wellington, and are looking forward to celebrating together in one of New Zealand’s creative hot-spots.”
Since it was established in 1965, the Silver Scroll Award has passed through the hands of some of New Zealand’s most well loved and celebrated songwriters. Past winners include Ray Columbus, Hammond Gamble, Shona Laing, Dave Dobbyn, Bic Runga, Don McGlashan, Neil Finn, Chris Knox, Brooke Fraser and Aaron Young, Alisa Xayalith & Thom Powers (The Naked and Famous). Last year the Silver Scroll Award was won by NZ’s own superstars Ella Yelich-O’Connor (Lorde) and Joel Little for their song ‘Royals’.
Alongside the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll Award, also presented on the night are the SOUNZ Contemporary and APRA Maioha Awards, for excellence in contemporary composition and Maori music respectively, the Most Played New Zealand Works awards, as well as an induction into the NZ Music Hall of Fame.
The 2014 APRA Silver Scroll Awards will be held on Thursday 30th October at the TSB Arena and will be streamed live via NZ Herald Online. The awards are kindly supported by Wellington City Council.
