Southern Discoveries’ Queenstown Locals’ Day raises over $7,000 for WHS

Lakes District residents came out in force to support Southern Discoveries’ locals’ day raising over $7,000 for Wakatipu High School.

Southern Discoveries’ sales and marketing manager Anita Golden said the company was “delighted with the support” shown for its first ever locals’ day and wanted to thank the local community for supporting the school.

“We reached capacity on our Mt. NIC High Country Woolshed and needed to add an additional 3.45pm tour and 5.30pm Scenic Cruise to meet demand,” she said.

“Our Spirit of Queenstown cruise only option was also incredibly popular with all scheduled departures selling out.

“We carried in excess of 450 passengers from a wide range of areas – as far away as Glenorchy and Wanaka. We’d like to thank the local community for their support for this great cause.”

St Omers Wharf was a hive of activity prior to each departure with a Queenstown Fire Brigade engine and firefighters, Queenstown Primary School sausage sizzle and face painting.

Wakatipu High School principal Steve Hall said he was “delighted the local community had come out in support of the school and the amount raised”.

“It’s so wonderful to have the support of the local community and businesses, and we are particularly grateful to Southern Discoveries for their very generous support. We will now work with Southern Discoveries to come up with a suitable project to invest these much needed funds,” he said.
