EECA Congratulates Z Energy for Biodiesel Initiative
Z Energy is to be congratulated for its decision announced today to go ahead with a new biodiesel plant in Auckland, says Elizabeth Yeaman, Manager Government Relations and Strategy at the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA).
“Z Energy is intending to make a very significant investment of $21 million in this plant, in order to be able to make a renewable fuel available to its customers, which will have the effect of reducing New Zealand’s net carbon dioxide emissions.”
“Businesses who use this fuel will be able to reduce their emissions, which enhances their environmental reputation with their own customers.”
Biodiesel is a renewable transport fuel that can be used in a blend with normal diesel, said Elizabeth Yeaman.
“New Zealand’s transport sector currently runs almost completely on fossil fuels. In total, liquid fuels contribute over 55% of New Zealand’s energy-related greenhouse gas emissions. Biofuels provide a renewable alternative.
“I hope that suitable businesses will take advantage of this opportunity to reduce their emissions.
“Z Energy’s initiative demonstrates its commitment to developing more sustainable transport solutions and this should be commended.”
