Good News for Sherazad Silk Customers in Wellington
Wellingtonians mourning the loss of the much loved iconic Sherazad silk store with the retirement of owner Anoop Bedi, will now still be able to get their fix of his gorgeous fabrics as another Wellington institution Sophie Voon Bridal is taking over stocking his range of dupion silks from this month. Sherazad Silks has long been known for quality fabrics in New Zealand and have even been stocked in Harrods, London.
After 32 years of selling his luxurious wares Bedi had been saddened when he initially thought he would no longer have a retail presence for his loyal customers after his retirement. Sophie Voon, a long time supporter and customer of the store is happy to see his range continue and be part of her thriving bridal design business on Willis St.
Based in Wellington since her teens, Sophie has fond memories of browsing in Sherazad for school ball dress material and then later purchasing silk for her own wedding dress from him.
"I've always loved his store and the gorgeous fabrics he had in stock. As a designer it was always inspiring to go in there and it's very special to be able to now sell the Sherazad line at Sophie Voon bridal." says Voon. "I have made many favourite purchases there over the years but my most memorable would have to be the embroidered silk organza I bought for my wedding dress in 1996 - I still love it."
