JB Hi-Fi to partner with Telecom and Skinny Mobile exclusively
Telecom announced today it has an exclusive partnership with JB Hi-Fi, one of New Zealand’s largest home entertainment specialists, to offer customers Telecom and Skinny Mobile in store.
Effective from 7 April, Telecom will launch exclusively into all 13 JB Hi-Fi stores nationwide. JB Hi-Fi will sell Skinny Mobile prepay, Telecom prepaid and pay monthly plans and will be the first mass market retail store with the ability to sell Telecom home broadband packages.
Telecom Retail CEO, Chris Quin, says the strategic partnership provides a great opportunity for growth. “JB Hi-Fi is a big part of the New Zealand digital landscape. This great partnership gives customers even better access to world class technology on Telecom’s Mobile network.”
Ross Parker, General Manager of Skinny Mobile, commented, “We’re delighted to be partnering with JB Hi-Fi, one of our country's premier retailers. At Skinny we’re always striving to give our customers amazing prepay mobile value and we’re looking forward to working with the JB Hi-Fi team to bring Skinny Mobile to even more New Zealanders.”
General Manager of JB Hi-Fi NZ, Daryn Rickwood is looking forward to what the partnership will mean for both companies, “The direction Telecom is taking as it looks to deliver more digital and entertainment services on top of its existing network was one of the factors in the decision to partner with them.”
JB’s chose to partner with Telecom because of their extensive products, services, data and their leadership in the market.
This follows Telecom’s recent announcements of an exclusive Spotify partnership, online TV content coming soon as well as Telecom changing its name to Spark later in the year.
Telecom Retail CEO Chris Quin says the partnership with JB Hi-Fi is another great example of the transformation of the business from a traditional telco to a “customer-inspired provider of digital services, entertainment, mobile and data.”
Telecom’s renewed focus on mobile is beginning to reap rewards, with a net 200,000 additional mobile customers choosing Telecom over the 12 months ending 31 December 2013.
Skinny also continues to gain momentum in the prepay market after its rebrand in July last year. The partnership with JB Hi-Fi will strengthen Skinny’s growth and commitment to making great value prepay mobile widely accessible to New Zealanders.
