Funds Raised Enable School Kids to go on a Zoo-fari
Students from low decile Auckland primary schools will get to experience Auckland Zoo free of charge in the ‘Zoo-fari’ programme after $57,000 was raised by The Warehouse Group (TW Group) at The Bob Tindall Classic Golf Tournament, held at Muriwai on Thursday 20th March.
A cheque for $57,000 was presented by Sir Stephen Tindall and Paul Walsh, The Warehouse Community & Environment Executive GM, to Auckland Zoo for the ‘Zoofari’ programme, which aims to see over 3,000 children through the gates this year.
Brian Ireland, Schools Programme Manager for Auckland Zoo says that many ‘Zoo-fari’ children had never visited Auckland Zoo and may not have had the opportunity if it wasn’t for The Warehouse Zoo-fari. “It’s brilliant being able to work alongside students and teachers to provide a high-quality learning experience that inspires them to care for wildlife, and to act positively for the environment.”
This is the first year The Bob Tindall Classic, an annual fundraising event organised by The Warehouse, had suppliers participating from across TW Group businesses, which include The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, Noel Leeming, Torpedo7 and MultiChannel.
More than 200 players participated and the event was an astounding success with funds raised through ticket sales, auctions and a raffle.
Paul Walsh, Executive GM Community and Environment was delighted with the amount raised: “The Warehouse is committed to supporting the community so we are really happy to be able to provide a significant donation to the Zoo-fari programme for the second year running.
“Auckland Zoo’s Discovery and Learning Centre provides fantastic learning opportunities to the thousands of children who will now be able to visit it.”
The first intake of school children on the Zoo-fari programme will be at the commencement of Term Two in May.
