Deutz sparkles after trophy win at Easter Show Wine Awards
Deutz Marlborough Cuvée is celebrating a Trophy win after Deutz Marlborough Cuvée Blanc de Blancs 2009 was awarded the Champion Sparkling Wine Trophy at the Easter Show Wine Awards 2014 Dinner, held at ASB Showgrounds in Auckland on Saturday 22nd March.
A fitting way to mark the 21st anniversary for Deutz Marlborough Cuvée Blanc de Blancs, the award-winning 2009 vintage was chosen as the very best in its category by Chair of Judges and renowned Australian wine Judge Mike DeGaris, together with a panel of New Zealand’s leading wine judges.
This recent trophy win for the 2009 vintage follows on nicely from the previous 2008 vintage of Deutz Marlborough Cuvée Blanc de Blancs which was also awarded the Champion Sparkling Wine Trophy at the 2013 show.
In addition to winning the Champion Sparkling Wine Trophy for the Deutz Marlborough Cuvée Blanc de Blancs 2009, Deutz Marlborough Cuvée NV and Deutz Marlborough Cuvée Rosé 2008 were both awarded silver medals, rounding off a great result for Deutz, demonstrating the quality of winemaking across the range.
“Deutz Marlborough Cuvée Blanc de Blancs is made from only the highest quality Chardonnay vineyard blocks and the 2009 vintage is no exception. Grapes are sourced on the southern side of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, where the citrus-tinged fruit traditionally displays great elegance, finesse and length. The wine shows complex and toasty aromas coupled with an elegant and creamy palate and we’re thrilled with this latest trophy win for the 2009 vintage,” said Deutz winemaker Marieta Blasco Pérez.
The Easter Show Wine Awards, the oldest wine competition in New Zealand, awards trophies to the champion wines across the complete range of varieties and styles. This year a total of 1,217 wines were judged.
The multi award-winning Deutz Marlborough Cuvée range is the unique result of a winemaking partnership started in 1988 with the prestigious House of Deutz in Champagne, whereby Deutz Marlborough Cuvée marries the best of New Zealand grapes with traditional French Champagne-making techniques.
