CRV Ambreed appoints international genetics product manager
CRV Ambreed has appointed American dairy industry marketer Danyel Hosto to the role of product manager genetics.
Hailing from Wisconsin where her family farms a small 60-cow Holstein Friesian herd, Hosto joined the New Zealand team in February from a role in CRV’s head office in Arnhem, Holland - close to the German border.
A Bachelor of Science graduate from of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Hosto has spent her career in dairy genetics product and market development working in various roles for CRV.
She first joined the US-based team after graduating, and was instrumental in setting up the company’s marketing operations in her home town. She then moved to the Netherlands for a promotion to a global marketing role which included supporting the company’s Brazilian, USA and New Zealand sister offices.
Hosto said she first worked in New Zealand last year in a fixed-term maternity leave position within the CRV Ambreed team. She was home in the States for Christmas after the fixed-term role ended and before returning to her role in the Netherlands, when the product manager genetics role in New Zealand became vacant.
She said she jumped at the opportunity to return to New Zealand to work more closely with dairy farmers, which she realised she had been missing in her corporate role at the time.
“I understand New Zealand’s dairy farming challenges really well from working with different business units during my time at Head Office. I also know CRV Ambreed’s domestic products and services. I’m incredibly excited about playing a role in producing genetics that are shaped and selected to meet our dairy farmer’s future needs,” said Hosto.
She said an interest in cattle genetics had developed at an early age when she was invited by her father to select new sires for their family’s herd. Hosto also had her own cows until 2005, which she sold to fund her university education.
“My background and education are perfectly suited to this role which is to optimise the breadth of the company’s product portfolio to meet the actual needs of New Zealand dairy farmers and the industry as it maintains its importance on the global dairy scene.
“I’ve already started visiting farmers around the country to gain a better understanding of their needs both now and in the future in terms of productive, profitable cows that provide the gains they want to see in their herds.”
Hosto will oversee genetic product development across all CRV Oceania business units, being CRV Ambreed, CRV Australia and Liberty Genetics.
CRV Ambreed’s managing director Angus Haslett said Hosto’s appointment was a significant addition to the team.
“Danyel brings a wealth of experience in global product development. During her time here last year she got up to speed with the issues and challenges our dairy farmers face and has been able to hit the ground running. She has empathy for dairy farmers having been one herself.
“She has a strong background in marketing and project management. Most importantly she understands our dairy farming systems and the cattle genetic types and production traits our farmers are looking to have in their herds in years to come.”
