Lines Companies Welcome Government Pricing Initiative
Energy Trusts of New Zealand, the umbrella organisation for 22 power line distributors across the country, has welcomed
a government decision to provide for a more accurate measurement of electricity prices.
Chair, Karen Sherry says energy trusts have been concerned for many years that consumers, faced with continually rising
power bills, have found it difficult to understand how to work out whether prices are fair.
Energy and Resources Minister Simon Bridges says future electricity price monitoring will reflect what consumers have
actually paid for their electricity, including discounts and benefits.
Miss Sherry says ETNZ hopes this will lead to power bills clearly identifying for consumers how much they pay for raw
power from the national grid, the distribution of that power by lines companies, and the costs charged by the big retail
companies who send out the bills.
