Proposed Restructuring of Department of Corrections National Office
Department of Corrections Acting Chief Executive Christine Stevenson has today released a proposal to restructure
aspects of its National Office functions.
The proposed changes will improve productivity in head office operations and build on changes made across the
organisation two years ago.
At that time we integrated our three service arms - prisons, rehabilitation and probation into one team to be
responsible for the day to day management and rehabilitation of all offenders across the country.
We also strengthened our regional structures to devolve decision making from the centre into the four regions.
The proposed restructure allows the Department to continue to focus on regional service delivery, and ensure that the
size of National Office reflects reducing offender numbers achieved.
There are no proposed changes to the Department’s frontline staff or services.
Allowing for vacancies and the opportunity for redeployment, up to sixty positions could be impacted by the proposed
changes, in areas such as human resources, property, legal and administration.
It’s too early to say what impact the changes might have on individuals, however, supporting our staff through these
changes will be a top priority for the organisation.
Staff have been given the opportunity to comment on the proposal and a final decision will not be made for some weeks
yet.
