Southern Discoveries appoints new sales manager for western markets
Award-winning tourism company Southern Discoveries continues to expand its business with the appointment of Julia Savill as sales manager – western markets.
The appointment follows a period of rapid growth for the South Island based company, which has interests in Queenstown and Milford Sound.
Ms Savill has a wealth of international tourism experience and knowledge including terms at both Destination Queenstown and Tourism New Zealand.
Based in Southern Discoveries’ St Omer’s Wharf office she will travel to all the major western markets on behalf of Southern Discoveries and joins Auckland-based Cecil Potatau in the international sales and marketing team.
Southern Discoveries general manager John Robson said he was “delighted” to have secured someone of Julia’s calibre to the team.
“Julia has over 14 years international tourism experience and a wealth of knowledge she brings to the team. We’ve undertaken a period of expansion and we now have an extensive product range to take to market,” he said.
“The international markets are a key area for us and it’s important we have the right person representing Southern Discoveries and the region.”
Ms Savill said she was looking forward to joining “a growing business with a range of unique, customer focused products to promote to international markets”.
“I’m passionate about the region and I’m looking forward to returning to a sales role promoting the Southern Lakes and Southern Discoveries’ portfolio of products,” she said.
About Southern Discoveries
Southern Discoveries operates four vessels at Milford Sound, ranging in capacity from 35 to 400 passengers, and offers the widest range of trips and experiences in the Sound.
The company operates Scenic Cruises, the Encounter Nature Cruise and Discover More Cruise, which incorporates a visit to the Milford Discovery Centre and Underwater Observatory, New Zealand’s only floating underwater observatory.
It owns and operates Harrisons Cove Kayaking, the Blue Duck Café & Bar in Milford, four information centres in Te Anau and Queenstown, and Te Anau-based coach service Go Milford.
It also operates the Queenstown Lake Cruise which provides day and charter cruises on Lake Wakatipu for up to 35 people and owns 50% of KJet, Queenstown's original Jet boat operator.
The company’s newest addition, Spirit of Queenstown, operates unique tours to Mt Nicholas Station for an authentic and nature-based experience. People can choose from an interactive woolshed experience, six hour 4WD Safari into the backcountry or half-day walk into the working high country station.
Carrying up to 150 passengers across Lake Wakatipu Spirit of Queenstown is available for private hire, and events as well as operating daily tours.
