Wendy’s Launches U.S. Burger of the Year – And It’s A Pretzel?
The Wendy’s burger lauded by Time magazine as 2013’s burger of the year in the U.S., hits New Zealand tomorrow.
Featuring a soft artisan pretzel in place of a traditional bun, the pub-style Wendy’s Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger is the latest ‘it’ burger, taking the United States by storm last year in what Time calls the Year of the Bun.
Referred to by industry news source Burger Business as “the most talked about” and “most important burger of the year”, the much acclaimed pretzel burger will be available across Wendy’s 22 New Zealand outlets nationwide from this Friday.
Like all Wendy’s burgers in New Zealand, the Kiwi version will feature 100 percent locally produced ingredients including a toasted artisan pretzel bun, fresh Quality Mark prime beef, award winning Manuka smoked bacon, natural cheddar cheese and warm cheddar cheese sauce, sweet and creamy honey Dijon mustard, spring salad mix, tomato and red onion.
Wendy’s CEO Danielle Lendich says the locally owned franchise is hoping for a similarly positive reception for the pretzel burger here. “It’s a bit different here as us Kiwis aren’t as familiar with soft pretzels as they are in the States, so our challenge will be getting our customers to try it. Kiwi tastes are definitely becoming more sophisticated though and this burger really does live up to all the hype.”
The Wendy’s Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger will be available for a limited time from lunchtime this Friday 21 February, with a retail price of $8.90.
