Sevens “Safe House” is a Sell-out
Hashigo Zake’s X-Ale Festival of Extreme and Experimental Beers, which intentionally coincides with the Wellington Sevens on February 8, is a sell-out.
The decision to hold the ticket-only festival on the second day of the Wellington Sevens was a kind of compromise following the bar’s decision to close to the public for the Sevens. “We’re closing on that day because of the actions of a few during the Sevens in previous years, but had reservations about penalising our regular customers. We were looking for the right time to stage the second ever X-Ale Festival. So our compromise was to hold X-Ale in the bar during the Sevens.” says Hashigo Zake General Manager, David Wood.
Festival goers can expect a carefully selected list of some of the least conventional beers ever brewed in New Zealand or abroad. Each attendee will be entitled to a small serving of every beer, with a chance later in the afternoon to purchase extra servings. Food will be provided by La Boca Loca.
X-Ale 2014 takes place at Hashigo Zake, 25 Taranaki St, from 1pm until 6pm on Saturday February 8. On February 7 Hashigo Zake will be open for business but with reduced hours – from 3pm to 8pm. Again this alteration to the bar’s usual trading hours is a consequence of problems faced trying to operate while the Wellington Sevens took place in previous years.
