The Strawberry Toppa is back!

The Strawberry Toppa is back!

Fans of the iconic Strawberry Toppa will once more be able to enjoy its delicious, fruity flavour when it reappears on shelves nationwide on Monday.

Its reintroduction follows a campaign launched by Tip Top in August last year, where ice cream lovers voted online to bring back a favourite product, from a selection chosen by fans of Tip Top’s Facebook page. Following an intense voting period during which 140,000 votes were cast, the Strawberry Toppa emerged as the winner.

One lucky fan was also chosen to taste the first Toppa straight off the production line at Tip Top’s factory before it is available on shelf to the rest of NZ. Winner Rachelle Williamson from Auckland commented, “I entered the competition as my husband has always been a huge Toppa fan. He was over the moon to be one of the first to try it and said it tastes even better than he remembered it.”

Originally registered 60 years ago, in 1954, the Strawberry Toppa was a staple of many Kiwi summers until the turn of the century. In the same year it was introduced, Moana Manley was the first Maori to be crowned Miss New Zealand, and the first NZ contestant to take part in a Miss Universe contest.

Now a proud great grandmother, Moana reminisced, “I remember enjoying a Toppa on hot summer days that seemed to go on forever! My most lingering memory is the contrast between the tangy strawberry on the outside, and the creamy ice cream on the inside.”

“All these years later, I look forward to sharing the experience with my grandchildren and great grandchildren.”

Minna Reinikkala, Tip Top Group Marketing Manager isn’t surprised that 60 years on the appeal of the Strawberry Toppa still holds strong, “We get a constant stream of requests from fans asking for their old favourites to be brought back, everything from kids’ products such as Popsicle Splash to the much loved Fruju Tropical Snow.”

“The voting last year clearly showed just how passionate some of our fans are and how seriously they take their treats!”

The Strawberry Toppa will be available from Monday 27th January for a limited time only in supermarkets, dairies and convenience stores nationwide.

It will be made with only natural colours and flavours, following Tip Top’s move in July last year.
