Fibre Upload Speeds Extraordinary
Upload speed is critical to many new activities on the web. For your friends to see you clearly on Skype, using the "cloud", or simply uploading pictures are some of the activities that require faster upload speeds.
Fibre upload speeds while below advertised speeds, are just plain fast. However VDSL and Cable technologies both match the slower 30Mb/s Fibre upload speed of 10Mb/s.
Results of Upload Tests
TrueNet recently introduced new tests for Upload speeds that are measured at TrueNet's servers. Our first month of testing show the value of upgrading an ADSL connection to any technology other than ADSL.

Chart: Upload Speed by Technology & ISP
The chart has shading to assist to see the differences between technologies. The scale is so large for ADSL that it is impossible to tell the differences between all ISPs at less than 1Mb/s upload speeds. This is as it should be, the speed is so slow they all appear equal. Note some ISPs manage to get up to 1.5Mb/s for those customers on the ISPs own equipment.
Every Vodafone Cable probe we sampled in December (20 probes) showed better than the advertised speed. The slower 15Mb/s cable speed offered by Vodafone reaches 2.1Mb/s upload, but at that speed is little better than ADSL.
Fibre is not quite delivered at advertised speeds, but for the 30Mb/s product from Orcon & Snap, 3 of 10 probes for each ISP achieved better than 10Mb/s and the rest were close behind.
The 50Mb/s upload speed for the fastest advertised Fibre speed of 100Mb/s download is very fast at 39Mb/s for Orcon and 44Mb/s for Snap.
How Can My Upload Speed be Improved?
Upgrading to a faster technology has the potential to dramatically improve performance in these internet activities:
• Video links, eg Facetime, Skype, Google Hangout
• Uploading photos to Facebook, Tumblr etc
• Uploading videos to YouTube, Vimeo etc
• Upgrading your website
• Using the cloud, eg Dropbox, iCloud, Mega etc
Changing from ADSL to any other wired technology will improve internet upload experience. We have one RBI probe that is on wireless and that upload speed is 2Mb/s, also better than ADSL, but still very slow.
