ATEED welcomes screen industry incentive changes

ATEED welcomes screen industry incentive changes

Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) welcomes today’s announcement that the Government is boosting screen production incentives for both overseas and New Zealand productions.

We also recognise the significance to the New Zealand film industry of securing the next three films in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise.

We are pleased that Government has recognised the need for flexibility and an internationally competitive incentives regime.

There is a pipeline of potential productions that has been blocked to date by our lack of competitiveness.

Raising the rebate from 15 to 20% (and in some cases 25%) will allow the Auckland and New Zealand screen industry to compete in the global market place, and will lead to a more sustainable New Zealand screen industry.

It is important that the views of Auckland’s screen industry are reflected in the criteria for the New Zealand Screen Production Grant which is due to be finalised in the new year.

We will work closely with industry and Government agencies to maximise the benefits of these changes for the people of Auckland, the New Zealand Screen Industry and NZ Inc.
