Farmers responsible for health and safety

16 December 2013

Farmers responsible for health and safety

Federated Farmers wants to send a timely reminder to farmers to be vigilant with health and safety this holiday season.

“Leading into Christmas employers will be wrapping up the year with staff functions and over the holiday period friends and family will be coming to visit. Farmers need to remind staff, family and friends of the hazards to help keep them safe,” says Jeanette Maxwell, Federated Farmers Health & Safety Spokesperson.

“Whilst the holidays are a time to relax, farmers must take responsibility for health and safety on farm. The farm is both an office and a home, presenting unique challenges for farmers in relation to health and safety; this is why Federated Farmers produced its own Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Workbook to navigate farmers through the process.

“It has been a year of trials and tribulations, so farmers should enjoy a well deserved break over Christmas. For those working through, be vigilant and don’t loose focus,” concluded Mrs Maxwell.
