Media release

ASB celebrates becoming the first bank in New Zealand to reach 100,000 Facebook ‘Likes’ with Starship donation

ASB is celebrating becoming the first bank in New Zealand to reach 100,000 Facebook ‘Likes’ with a special donation to the Starship Foundation as determined by its Facebook community.

“We are thrilled to become the first bank in New Zealand to reach 100,000 Facebook ‘Likes’,” says Simone McCallum, ASB’s Corporate Social & Community Strategist. “This is more than the total number of Facebook ‘Likes’ of the four other major New Zealand banks combined and is a milestone we wanted to celebrate with our Facebook community.”

“Today our special celebration Facebook post attracted 28,450 ‘Likes’ which we will be matching in dollars as a donation to the Starship Foundation as a way of saying thank you to our Facebook community.”

“ASB has been a Five Star sponsor of the Starship Foundation for more than twenty years and we are pleased to be able to share our online success with them to support the good work they do.”

ASB is New Zealand’s leading bank on social media and has delivered innovations on these platforms such as the ‘Like Loan’ campaign, Facebook Virtual Branch and the Google Street View tour inside ASB’s North Wharf headquarters. ASB is also the only bank in New Zealand to have a corporate blog and offer Facebook payments over mobile devices.

ASB’s Facebook and Twitter channels are manned seven days a week to provide service to this steadily growing community of customers.
