Heather Roy appointed Chair of Electricity and Gas Complaints Commissioner Scheme Board
Heather Roy has been appointed as Chair of the Electricity and Gas Complaints Commissioner Scheme (EGCC) Board. The EGCC offers a dispute resolution service for complaints about electricity and gas companies that are members of the Scheme.
As Minister of Consumer Affairs from November 2008 to August 2010, Mrs Roy was involved in consumer law reform, and the approval of the EGCC as the regulated scheme for the electricity and gas sector.
Mrs Roy takes up her position effective 1 January 2014. She replaces Dr Richard Janes, who has been Chair of the EGCC Board since December 2007. Dr Janes saw the EGCC through the critical period leading up to approval in April 2010. The EGCC currently enjoys a strong degree of goodwill from the industry, which recognises its value as part of a mature infrastructure industry.
“I look forward to leading a service which I have always regarded as doing an important role well,” Mrs Roy said. “This independent service for resolving complaints about electricity and gas companies is free to consumers and helps set standards within the industry. I am delighted to be able to progress the work of Dr Janes who has made a significant contribution in this area.”
