Registering your overseas travel made easier
Registering your overseas travel made easier
New Zealanders travelling or living overseas can now register their travel details using a simpler online system, thanks to changes made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).
The www.safetravel.govt.nz website features official travel advice for New Zealanders on most destinations worldwide.
MFAT consular divisional manager Lyndal Walker says both the SafeTravel website and online registration system have been redesigned to make the process easier.
“Log on to SafeTravel before you take off,” Ms Walker says. “The revamped website makes it quicker and simpler for people to register their travel details with us.
“The SafeTravel website has also been redesigned for mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, so that you can easily register on the move.
“SafeTravel contains up-to-date Travel Advisories, as well as news items on current issues that could affect your travel.
“New Zealanders love to travel, but the unforeseen, such as a tropical cyclone, can occur. If you register your details with SafeTravel, this will help our consular staff contact you in an emergency, so we can check on your wellbeing or send you important information.
“For example, prior to and after the recent typhoon in the Philippines, MFAT was able to contact registered New Zealanders and provide them with updates and information. In a crisis such as this, those who are registered with us are contacted first.
“MFAT also takes privacy seriously. Any information you supply using SafeTravel is kept absolutely confidential,” says Ms Walker.
