Australia wakes up to Queenstown on Sunrise
(Queenstown, New Zealand – 9 December 2013): Queenstown’s reputation as a world-renowned adventure destination and its stunning alpine scenery will be beamed into Aussie homes this week on Australia’s most watched breakfast programme, Channel 7’s Sunrise. The popular breakfast TV show airs daily between 6.00am and 9am to over 300,000 viewers.
Sunrise weather presenter Edwina Bartholomew will go live with weather broadcasts every half hour from two iconic Queenstown locations today (Monday 9 September) and tomorrow.
The live action will kick off at the world home of bungy, Kawarau Bridge, with Edwina spending time with AJ Hackett Bungy co-founder and adventure tourism pioneer Henry van Asch reflecting on a quarter of a century in the business of adrenalin thrills.
On Tuesday audiences will be treated to some of the best views in Queenstown from the comfort of their homes as Edwina heads up Skyline Gondola to get a taste for the adventures of luging and paragliding.
The show will also head to Glenorchy with Dart River Jet to experience Paradise first hand and find out how the commercial jet boating business has changed over the past 25 years. Dart River Jet is another iconic adventure thrill to have celebrated their 25th birthday this year.
Destination Queenstown partnered with Tourism New Zealand (TNZ) to secure Sunrise through the TNZ International Media Programme to help amplify the “Everyday a different story” Australian marketing campaign.
Destination Queenstown CEO Graham Budd is delighted to have the high profile breakfast show in town and said it is a valuable opportunity to present Queenstown to its most important international visitor market.
“Australia is Queenstown’s biggest source of international visitors and more Australians are discovering the region’s year round charms. In this campaign we are showcasing our beauty and thrilling adventures as well as reinforcing how accessible we are to Australian visitors.”
