Manufacturer Answers Call for Healthier Meat Products

Kiwi Manufacturer Answers Call for Healthier Meat Products for Children

One of New Zealand's leading food manufacturers has created a new range of meat products for kids with a view to securing the all important children’s meal market share.

Beak NZ, a New Zealand operated company has launched an innovative range of sausages - including a Watties tomato sauce flavoured sausage, meatballs and burger patties to appeal to both parents and children alike.

The products which contain herbs, spices and premium beef or chicken are designed to appeal to the growing number of families who are asking for a more natural meat product.

General Manager Graeme Laurence says this is why the sausage, pattie and meatballs products were created to be free from MSG, contain no artificial colours or flavours and are low in preservatives.

The company has also taken the step of creating gluten free products, to appeal to the thousands of Kiwis who may suffer from some form of gluten intolerance.

"Kiwi parents are better informed than ever before and are demanding a better quality product at the checkout and we have a responsibility to ensure that what we produce for our children is as wholesome as possible."

It is for that reason says Laurence, that only the best quality chicken is used and patties and sausages are created from pure chicken breast and thigh meat.

"Along with leaving out the nasties like MSG and artificial colours we are proud to have boosted our products with Omega 3 essential fatty acids. This, along with additional fibre and reduced sodium, has seen us ensure our products are a better choice by far for New Zealand children and their families," he says.

It makes sense then that the Beak family, which features four generations of sausage connoisseurs, was also the first to create a sausage which encapsulates two Kiwi favourites.

What summer picnic table or family barbecue would be complete without sausages and Wattie's Tomato Sauce and now the company has found a way to capitalise on Kiwis passion for this combination.

The Tomato Sauce Beef Sausages are made with real Watties Tomato Sauce and contain no artificial colours or flavours and are also gluten free.

As a father of two Laurence says he is passionate about providing Kiwis with healthy alternatives to the traditional barbecue and party fare that kids are often served.

“We believe that food should not only be delicious but it should be healthy too, we strive to ensure our products encapsulate that philosophy from pasture to plate by using only fresh, high quality ingredients," says Laurence.
