Umbrella organisations looking to amalgamate
Two national umbrella organisations in the community sector, Social Development Partners and ANGOA (Association of
Non-Governmental Organisations of Aotearoa), are proposing to become one organisation.
They have recently decided to jointly explore creating one new amalgamated entity – nicknamed ‘Working Title Aotearoa’
for the moment – by the end of next year.
SDP Chair, Simon Cayley, acknowledges that the new organisation would combine and enhance the brands, identity and key
functions of both organisations.
“These functions will be aligned with the existing brands so that the new entity can benefit from the reputations and
histories of both organisations.
Marion Blake, Chair of ANGOA, acknowledges that in moving towards this vision, a wide range of issues will need to be
navigated including alignment of current constitutions, structures, operational processes and members.
“Both organisations will be developing a more detailed project plan to map out the process and milestones for 2014 and
this will be circulated as appropriate over the coming months to all members.
“Boards, staff and members of the partner organisations will be engaged during this process.
Both Simon and Marion reiterate that this is a positive and exciting commitment.
“It reflects the intention of both organisations to build a joint approach and provides us ongoing relevance and
sustainability. It enhances our ability to make an effective contribution to New Zealand society.
The new arrangement will help to ensure that the shared objectives built in to the Partnership Agreement signed earlier
this year can now start to be realised.
