New Zealand Green Building Council Announces New Board of Directors

The New Zealand Green Building Council is delighted to announce the election of Tim Hooson of Jasmax Ltd as the new Chair of the New Zealand Green Building Council, replacing Craig Price of Beca who is retiring from the board.

“Craig’s contribution to the development and on-going success of the New Zealand Green Building Council has been enormous. As a foundation member of the board, Craig has been involved with the NZGBC from day one and his vast experience and commitment to sustainable building has seen the organisation grow in character and strength. Craig is leaving the NZGBC in great shape and I am confident that the institutional memory of the NZGBC is embedded in the foundations of the current board” said new Chair, Tim Hooson.

Chief Executive of NZGBC, Alex Cutler said, ‘“NZGBC continues to evolve as an organisation and we are lucky to have the contribution of such strong advocates as both Craig and Tim, helping to shape our future. I have no doubt that Tim will bring a similar steady hand as well as adding a flavour of the design sector to his new role as Chair.”

The AGM also brought the announcement of three newly elected board members: Matthew Lee - WSP, Alex Hanlon – University of Canterbury and John Schellekens of CBRE Ltd.

Speaking of the newly elected Directors, Alex Cutler said, “I am delighted to be welcoming Alex, John and Matt to the Board of Directors. Their experience, expertise and commitment to the development and adoption of sustainable green building in New Zealand will serve the NZGBC and the member groups they represent well.

Also confirmed on the day was the appointment of two Independent Directors for the term of one year – Mary-Jane Daly and Pieter Burghout - Fletcher Building.

“With the excellent financial results, the strong membership support we have and the great staff retention results, the NZGBC is in a strong position going forwards. I am proud of the work that has been done to date and look forward to the continued successes,” concluded Tim Hooson.

Matthew Lee is a Director of WSP New Zealand and has worked in a number of Green Star technical working groups, as a Green Star assessor, and as a Green Star Accredited Professional in both NZ and Australia. He is a passionate kiwi and advocate for sustainable building design with over 15 years of experience in NZ, Australia and South East Asia in building engineering in all market sectors.

Alex Hanlon is the Director of Learning Resources at the University of Canterbury. Her portfolio includes management of the University's libraries, the Information and Communication Technology Services Group, Campus Services, Capital Works and Planning and Engineering Services. This portfolio includes the University's Sustainability Office.

John Schellekens is National Director, Structured Transactions and Advisory for CBRE Limited. John has over 20+ years’ experience in the property sector encompassing valuation, advisory and transactions. He has previously led CBRE’s National Commercial Valuation Business, is an ex Corporate Finance Partner at EY and currently National Director of CBRE’s Professional Services Business Lines.
