Black Friday turns Red for New Zealand

Black Friday turns Red for New Zealand

Today The Warehouse held it’s inaugural Red Friday event, kick-starting the Christmas shopping season with unprecedented consumer demand

Following the Black Friday phenomenon which has become the busiest shopping day of the year in the United States, The Warehouse today became the first retailer in New Zealand to offer Kiwis an event like this, which was met with unprecedented enthusiasm.

Customers began queueing outside the doors of many of the 93 stores across the country, several hours before opening, in order to take advantage of the one day ‘Red Friday’ deals across technology and appliances to homewares, outdoors, Christmas gifting and jewellery. In fact there were nearly 400 customers queued outside the Whangarei store, where earlybird shoppers snapped up incredible deals on TVs, DVD players, mobile phones, booster seats and home appliances.

Some of the striking deals on offer included:
• Veon 16” LED TVs for $99
• Nokia 100 mobile phones for $14
• Xbox kinect for $249
• Home appliances including kettles, toasters, irons and electric mixers for just $10.

TW Group CEO Mark Powell said: “While we knew there would be high consumer demand, we were amazed with today’s unprecedented sales; in fact some items like DVD players, which we stocked thousands of units, sold out within the first two hours of some stores opening.

“Red Friday is a fantastic way to kick off the Christmas shopping season and quite clearly there is huge demand for discount deals on great products, which enable customers to plan ahead for the busy month of December.

“Technology products and home appliances were flying off the shelves, with DVD players and TVs proving most polular. Child booster seats were also in high demand and we are seeing a significant lift in sales as a result.

“Following today’s success of the Red Friday extravaganza, we will definitely look at growing the event next year to meet the consumer demand,” said Mark Powell.

Red Friday follows the recent success of the Group’s inaugural ‘Click Madness’ internet shopping extravaganza, which set a new benchmark for online deals from the entire TW Group, including The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, Noel Leeming and Multichannel brands: Red Alert, Torpedo7, 1-Day, ilovebeauty, pet.co.nz and No.1 Fitness.

Mr Powell said: “Click Madness was for Online sales what Red Friday is for in-store sales, with huge increases against a normal day’s sales.

“The market is evolving rapidly and we are always looking for new ways to give Kiwis new and exciting deals,” added Mr Powell.
