MTA appoints new Chief Executive

The President of the 4000 member-strong Motor Trade Association (MTA) Mr David Storey, has announced the appointment of Mr Rob MacGregor, a former CEO of Budget Rent-a-Car, Office Products Depot and a business transition specialist, as the Association’s new chief executive.

He replaces Mr Stephen Matthews who is stepping down after successfully growing the organisation over a period of 15 years.

Mr Storey said Mr Matthews had been responsible for guiding the Association through a period of great change and contributed strongly as an advocate for the industry. “We acknowledge and recognise Stephen’s sterling contribution to the Association and to the wider industry over a number of years but appreciate that there are other opportunities and priorities that he now wishes to explore.

Mr Storey said the change provides impetus for the Association to take a strategic review of its role and operations in the wider marketplace and to set in place strategies that support our statement of purpose “To create sustainable business advantage to its members” for the next decade.

“To that extent we are fortunate to have secured the services of Rob MacGregor who will bring to bear his considerable experience in business transition, change management and process improvement.”

He said that this was an obvious opportunity to realign the business of the Association to meet the growing needs of members at a time of impending legislative change affecting the industry at large.

Established in 1917, MTA is the largest automotive industry body in New Zealand, representing over 4,000 automotive businesses – from general repair workshops, vehicle sales and service stations through to repairers specialising in fields as diverse as alternative fuels and collision repair. It also acts as a strong advocate for its members and New Zealand’s motorists.

Mr MacGregor takes up his new role early December.
