Singapore Airlines and Tourism New Zealand Renew Partnership with Second Memorandum of Understanding

Singapore Airlines and Tourism New Zealand have today announced the signing of a three year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) valued at NZ$2 million. This MoU renews the partnership between the two organisations, which signed a similar agreement in 2010 that lasted until June 2013.

The MoU spells out a commitment to jointly explore and implement activities to promote tourist traffic to New Zealand. These include cooperative marketing activities such as advertising and promotional campaigns in Germany, India and Singapore, as well as media and trade familiarisation trips across a total of seven markets, among other plans.

In the first year of the MoU, the parties will together invest NZ$550,000 in joint marketing campaigns. In addition, Singapore Airlines will provide air fares and Tourism New Zealand will provide on-the-ground support for 60 media and trade familiarisation trips to New Zealand from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, India, Indonesia, Singapore and China.

Tourism New Zealand’s Chief Executive Kevin Bowler said the work will support both New Zealand’s long-term traditional markets and new markets that show great potential for growth.

“Our new emerging markets strategy is specifically targeting growth out of India and Indonesia so the work we are doing with Singapore Airlines will form a key part in delivering on that strategy.

“We also know that the reach and effectiveness of our marketing is enhanced when we work in partnership with others and it is a pleasure to have signed this joint commitment with Singapore Airlines.”

Singapore Airlines’ Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing Mr Chin Yau Seng said, “This agreement underscores our confidence in New Zealand as an attractive destination, as well as our commitment to developing and promoting tourism to New Zealand.

“We are confident that our efforts will encourage even more people to explore New Zealand’s natural beauty, rich culture, year-round activities and the warmth and friendliness of its people.”
