MEDIA RELEASE: NZTE Appointments to Greater China Team

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) has made three new appointments to its Greater China team.

Glen Murphy has been appointed as the new Regional Director. He will oversee key relationships across the region and be responsible for the operations of NZTE’s offices in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Currently based in Auckland, Glen will move to Shanghai in January 2014.

Glen, who has been a New Zealand Beachheads Adviser since August 2012, moved to China in early 2003 as Managing Director of The Nielsen Company where he led a 2000-strong team providing information and advisory services to consumer marketing and retailing companies. Glen moved to Hong Kong in 2009 where he ran The Nielsen Company’s key client service teams across Asia, Pacific, India, Middle East and Africa.

He established a consultancy and training company CXX NZ Ltd in 2011, which has delivered successful projects throughout the region. Working with New Zealand-based partners, Glen also established an online medical publishing business that has been operating in Hong Kong since late 2011. He is also an independent director on the board of Mud House Wine Group.

Ivan Kinsella will take up a new role as Director Commercial and Investment Relations. Ivan is currently Director Investment in Beijing leading the Greater China Capital team and will continue to work on matching the supply and demand of capital flows between China and New Zealand. In addition, he will also support the Regional Director in leveraging the increasing number of NZ Inc relationships in China and be responsible for building deeper commercial relationships with large Chinese corporates, particularly Chinese State Owned Enterprises.

Ivan has been with NZTE for two years. He was previously with Austrade in Beijing and has over 20 years’ experience dealing with Asia in corporate, advisory and government roles. He has also been based in Taipei, Hong Kong, London and Sydney. Ivan has an MSc in Management from the London Business School.

Liam Corkery has been appointed as Trade Commissioner in Beijing. He will be responsible for facilitating and promoting trade and investment and maintaining an extensive network of relationships relevant to New Zealand businesses.

Liam was most recently the Director of the New Zealand Trade Development Centre in Taipei. Previously, Liam was based in Singapore with NZTE helping to attract and facilitate FDI from ASEAN and India and has worked for NZTE in both Wellington and New York. Liam has a triple major Bachelor of Arts from Victoria University and a Global Executive MBA from the University of Southern California, delivered jointly with Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Liam is replacing Alan Young who will return to New Zealand where, from March 2014, he will work as a Beachheads Advisor in the Services team two days a week, advising companies targeting the Greater China market. Alan is hugely experienced and will apply his expertise to assisting companies looking to succeed in China.
