Carilion Clinic in Virginia chooses Orion Health’s Rhapsody
New Zealand eHealth technology company Orion Health has made another major software sale in the United States – this
time to Carilion Clinic, a network of 195 health facilities in Virginia that serves nearly a million people.
Carilion Clinic, a not-for-profit network of hospitals, primary and specialty physician practices based in Roanoke,
Virginia, will use Orion Health’s Rhapsody Integration Engine for system-wide integration of its health IT
infrastructure. Carilion will use Rhapsody to connect disparate health IT software and applications across its
facilities throughout Virginia, and Rhapsody will replace Carilion’s legacy integration engine.
Rhapsody enables healthcare organisations and partners to link their healthcare IT systems, regardless of technology or
standards. Rhapsody supports a wide range of communication protocols and message formats, and helps interface analysts
and hospital IT administrators to reduce their workload while meeting complex technical challenges. Rhapsody also gives
administrators better personal notification options, scheduling tools and real-time activity streams to ensure important
updates are received by the appropriate person.
Carilion Clinic chose Rhapsody due to the solution’s ease of use, as well as its flexibility and scalability of
deployment. Carillion has already started implementing Rhapsody.
“Seamless integration between IT systems and stable application interfaces are the two critical components that underpin
Carilion’s technology infrastructure and ensure reliable connectivity for all of our clinicians,” said Kay Hix, CIO,
Carilion Clinic. “Orion Health Rhapsody Integration Engine will give our analysts an intuitive, stable solution for
linking and monitoring the systems we use to provide co-ordinated, quality care close to home for nearly one million
Virginians.”
“Carilion Clinic’s dedication to the community and to the millions of patients the organisation serves are a model for
delivering care in today’s changing healthcare landscape,” said Harish Panchal, vice president, Orion Health North
America. “With the installation of Rhapsody as Carilion’s integration engine, Orion Health will partner closely with the
organisation to support its vision for local, co-ordinated care across Virginia.”
