Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board calls for applications from young leaders of tomorrow
The Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers
Board (PGDB), which regulates the industry, is calling for
applications for its Youth Leadership Awards from young
industry achievers across all three trades.
To mark its Centenary the Board will publicly recognise award winners from each trade at a special ceremony in 2014.
PGDB
Chief Executive, Max Pedersen said this award will be given
not only in recognition of academic accomplishment and
competence in qualifying to join the industry, but also for
potential to lead.
“ We want to support the young people in the industry. Encourage leadership and recognise those who have demonstrated potential as future industry leaders.”
Along with the recognition from the award, winners will receive an eight day Outward Bound package. “We see this invaluable experience as an opportunity to help develop team work and communication skills to fulfil their potential as industry leaders”, Max added.
Applications close for the Boards Centenary Youth Leadership Awards on the 22 November 2013. Application forms and Centenary information can be found on the PGDB’s website at www.pgdb.co.nz
The Board also reminds that homeowners should not risk their family’s health and safety or their property by hiring unauthorised tradespeople to undertake work. Unlicensed plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers potentially place consumers in harm’s way with substandard skills. New Zealanders have the right to have confidence that services provided to them are safe and compliant. It is illegal for anyone to do plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying unless they are authorised to do so by the Board.
Anyone carrying out plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying must be able to produce their licence card. Ask for the Card. This provides consumers with an assurance that the work is being legally carried out by an authorised and competent tradesperson, who is currently licensed by the PGDB. Consumers can check to see if a plumber, gasfitter or tradesperson is authorised to carry out the work at the PGDB’s website at www.pgdb.co.nz.
