Pandora debuts new tablet experience for Android
Redesigned tablet app delivers enhanced listening experience, increased music personalisation and exploration, and new social media sharing features
Auckland, NZ. October 31, 2013 – Pandora today releases a new version of the company’s app built specifically for Android tablets. Pandora 5.0 for Android tablets brings the entire experience to design and feature parity with the service’s popular Android smartphone app and the Pandora app on all iOS devices.
“The uptake of tablets in New Zealand has grown significantly in recent years – research shows around a third of New Zealand internet users are likely to soon use a tablet[1]. We’re a very mobile and tech savvy bunch,” says Melanie Reece, Pandora’s Commercial Director New Zealand.
“Tablets provide a highly portable way to consume content, as such our new app is designed to create a captivating environment for our listeners, who want to have their personalised Pandora stations with them wherever they are.
“One particularly exciting development is that social sharing comes to the Android tablet for the first time, giving listeners the opportunity to publish their music activity to Facebook or share links to their favourite Pandora stations on Twitter,” Reece says.
Key features of Pandora 5.0 for Android and iPad tablets now include:
• Connect & share music with friends – Social sharing features are available on Android and iPad tablets for the first time with listeners able to publish their music activity to Facebook with the Pandora Timeline app as well as manually share links to favourite stations with followers on Twitter.
• Enhanced listening experience & personalisation – The app interface is optimised for large screens. It features upgraded core Pandora functionality, such as adding variety to a station and viewing station details, as well as the ability to easily shuffle, rename and delete stations.
• Deeper music discovery & exploration – Listeners can explore more about the artist and album that is currently playing. They can also more easily purchase tracks from Amazon or iTunes through enriched artist pages that include recommendations of similar artists and genome traits of the current track spinning, plus lyrics, artist biographies and album discographies.
• Personal music profile & music feed – Detailed timeline captures music preferences for each individual listener, such as stations created, bookmarked tracks and thumb history with the option for users to make the profile either public or private. The Music Feed provides a centralised place to view music activity, making it easy to explore what friends and other listeners with similar musical tastes are discovering and enjoying on Pandora.
Pandora 5.0 for Android tablets is now available for download in the Google Play Store.
