thl launches mobile Wi-Fi solution for vehicle rental customers
Tourism Holdings Limited (thl), Australasia’s largest campervan rental company, which operates the maui, KEA, Britz, United and Mighty brands, has launched a world leading mobile Wi-Fi system across its campervan fleet in New Zealand and Australia, with commitments to launch in USA before the end of 2013.
thl has partnered with mobile data connectivity specialists Idataroam (idataroam.com) to provide the solution, having identified connectivity as a key demand from international customers.
thl Chief Information Officer, Quinton Hall says the initiative has been driven by thl wanting to become more technology and customer focused: “Our customers are looking for ways to make their travel more enjoyable; in vehicle Wi-Fi technology is one way to do this and we are delighted to lead the industry in providing such services.”
The solution is provided via a 3G backhaul, using pocket sized mobile Wi-Fi routers, which turn a 3G connection into a wireless signal. Customers will be able to rent the thl pocket sized Wi-Fi devices on a low per day charge, which will allow them to remain connected throughout their travels. The Wi-Fi units will also be provided free to KEA customers over the coming summer.
Customers will be able to buy more data and control data spend via the use of the idataroam software system, which allows remote credit card top ups to be added easily.
Last year thl launched a free bespoke iPhone travel app for all maui, Britz and Mighty rental customers. Powered by Tourism Radio, the apps are exclusive to each of the maui, Britz and Mighty brands and are audio as well as visual, delivering hours of quality tourism radio commentary for hundreds of points of interest across New Zealand.
Idataroam is a 100% New Zealand owned business, and wholly owned subsidiary of the Liverton Technology Group Limited, which specialise in software development, and email security.
Liverton Technology Group Limited is supported and funded by interests associated with Sir Stephen Tindall’s K1W1 fund, and has offices in Wellington, Auckland and Sydney.
