Vodafone brings 4G to Coromandel holiday hotspots
Vodafone has begun its rollout of 4G – the world’s fastest mobile network technology – to provincial New Zealand today, with the launch of 4G at Coromandel holiday hotspots.
4G is available today in parts of Matarangi and the Coromandel Township and will be live in parts of Whitianga, Whangamata, Pauanui, Hahei and Tairua by Christmas.
Matt Williams, Vodafone’s Consumer Director, says the rollout of a commercial 4G network is great news for locals and visitors to the area.
“We’re proud to be the first and only provider bringing superfast 4G to the Coromandel.
“Vodafone pioneered 4G in New Zealand, giving Kiwis access to the world’s best technology – technology that allows them to do whatever they need to do, whenever they need to do it. With 4G extending to eight locations around Coromandel by Christmas, there’s even more opportunity for locals and visitors to experience the speed of 4G.
“Customers across nine towns and cities are already enjoying the speed of 4G – and now they can continue using 4G the same way at the bach – whether that's using their device as a WiFi hotspot, streaming content, accessing the cloud or web browsing.”
Vodafone offers the largest range of 4G-capable devices at a range of price points – 23 now, including the recently launched Samsung GALAXY Note 3, Sony Xperia Z1, and Vodafone Pocket WiFi R215.
Kiwis wanting to experience the speed of 4G will need a 4G-capable device with the latest software, a qualifying plan and be in a 4G coverage area. The device seamlessly switches to Vodafone’s next fastest 3G speeds when customers leave the 4G coverage area.
Vodafone’s 4G network is now well-established, with broad national coverage available to over 1.26 million Kiwis across nine towns and cities: Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, Wanaka, Lake Brunner, Taupo, New Plymouth and Palmerston North.
Under the Government’s Rural Broadband Initiative, Vodafone is also bringing new mobile and broadband coverage to parts of the Thames-Coromandel district. New towers are planned for Kauaeranga Valley, Te Puru, Cooks Beach and Manaia, serving over 2,600 households.
