The Roxy takes out Australian Awards
Wellington icon The Roxy Cinema has won over our trans-Tasman neighbours and has received a prestigious award by the Australian Independent Distributors’ Association (AIDA).
The Roxy Cinema was awarded ‘Best Cinema in New Zealand’ at an exclusive awards dinner last week as part of the 68th Australian International Movie Convention 2013 held in Broadbeach on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
The Roxy was nominated by a collection of independent film distributors from New Zealand and overseas. Australian actor Don Hany (of TV One’s Offspring fame) presented the award.
“We are absolutely delighted with this award. The Roxy Cinema has been open for just two and a half years and yet this award proves that we have made an impression in international circles,” says Cesar Breton, General Manager of The Roxy Cinema.
“We have had a number of international film distributors congratulate us on the award, and countless ‘fans’ cheer us on through social media. This is a great win for Wellington cinema. We are all passionate about film and cinema and it’s great to have this support behind us.”
