Kiwi Kids Lap Up Fonterra Milk for Schools

The numbers are in – more than 1000 schools around New Zealand are now enjoying the taste of dairy every school day thanks to Fonterra’s Milk for Schools.

From Southland to Northland, the programme has moved full steam ahead rolling out in eleven regions and reached Auckland today.

Fonterra Chief Executive Officer, Theo Spierings, said over the past five months there has been significant community support for the national rollout.

“Milk is one of the most nutritious foods there is and we want to do what we can to make sure Kiwi kids grow up drinking it every day,” said Mr Spierings.

“By the end of the rollout we will be delivering milk to more than 1300 schools. That’s a result we are really proud of and this success is thanks to the support our farmers, schools, and communities have given the programme this year.”

Three Kings Primary School Principal, Josephine Wilmoth, said receiving their first delivery of milk from Richie McCaw was a highlight of the year.

“Signing up for Fonterra Milk for Schools was an easy decision. It allows us to provide our children with great nutrition that will support their learning. We are very proud to have had the opportunity to welcome the rollout of Fonterra Milk for Schools to Auckland with Fonterra and the community today,” said Mrs Willmoth.

Fonterra Ambassador, Richie McCaw, said Fonterra’s long-term investment in the health of New Zealand’s children will benefit Kiwi kids in years to come.

“Fonterra Milk for Schools is all about ensuring our kids grow up strong and healthy. The kids I saw today, and in my hometown Christchurch, all have a lot of potential, but receiving a great nutritional boost every day is what will help make them the sports players, leaders and stars they want to be,” said Mr McCaw.

More than 130 schools in Auckland from all deciles have now signed up for Fonterra Milk for Schools and as the largest region in the Fonterra Milk for Schools national rollout, it is expected all schools will be drinking by the end of Term 1 2014.

Applications are now open in Auckland for schools to register their interest or sign up for Fonterra Milk for Schools at www.fonterramilkforschools.com
