Consumers Should Give 2degrees the Third Degree

MEDIA RELEASE OCTOBER 2013

New Survey Shows Consumers Should Give 2degrees the Third Degree

A recent1 survey has uncovered some interesting points about the way New Zealanders view their mobile phone provider and uncovered some incorrect perceptions in the market towards 2degrees.

A whopping 88% of respondents are under the impression that 2degrees is 100% Kiwi-owned and operated when in fact the NZ Companies Office shows that the actual shareholding of Two Degrees Mobile Limited is over 86% internationally owned2.

“Some 35% of Kiwis believe 2degrees is the cheapest mobile phone provider available in New Zealand,” says Skinny Mobile CEO Paul Taylor. “That’s not true. In fact, the Skinny Mobile $16 Stretch Monthly Prepay Combo is priced at $16, while the comparable 2degrees prepay combo is priced at $193.

“Skinny Mobile is at least 10% cheaper than 2degrees on talk and text, and at least 20% cheaper on data and MMS, for NZ prepay standard rates4, and we have the lowest price prepay SIMs (RRP $4)5” says Taylor. “Skinny Mobile also has New Zealand’s lowest priced prepay talk, text and data combo and we let customers keep their number when they switch to Skinny, as well as giving them their first month free when they do6.”

“We don’t waste money on corporate sponsorships or celebrities fronting our campaigns. We focus on reducing cost to give value back to our customers!”

A sign of the times is that over 50% of people surveyed would use the money they saved on changing to a Skinny Mobile phone deal to save for the future and almost 80% of respondents would like a simple, easy-to-understand monthly and all-inclusive mobile phone plan costing just $16.
