A Deep Dive into Start-up Capital – Full Days Workshop on Start-up Funding
The Icehouse, in partnership with Creative HQ, Microsoft, NZTE and NZVIF, is offering entrepreneurs in Auckland and Wellington the opportunity to attend a full day workshop to get an in-depth overview of the world of start-up capital from Bill Payne, one of the US’s most decorated Angel Investors, and leading New Zealand start-up investors, entrepreneurs and experts.
This workshop was first offered as part of Bill Payne’s 2012 visit and was hugely successful. Attendees highly rated the opportunity to get insights into start-up funding and practical advice directly from the different people in the space; investors, entrepreneurs, lawyers, start-up advisors and industry experts.
As a result of the outstanding feedback The Icehouse is extending the workshop in 2013 to run in Auckland as well as Wellington.
The workshop is addressing a strong demand from start-up entrepreneurs for more education and guidance around the capital raising process.
“After the success of last year’s workshop we are really excited to run another in 2013, says Ken Erskine, Director of Start-ups at The Icehouse. “Many of the start-ups we work with depend on external funding to accelerate growth. Understanding funding options and the investment process is key to securing the right backing. With this workshop we are addressing this demand by offering start-up entrepreneurs the chance to learn from leading international and local experts as well as entrepreneurs who have been through the process. We are particularly excited that to team up with Creative HQ to bring the workshop to Wellington this year.”
The workshop will give attendees a comprehensive overview of the world of start-up capital, including:
•The Capital Food Chain: The various sources and purposes of capital for start-ups
•The Ecosystem: An insider’s look at who is who in NZ (by Chris Twiss, NZ Venture Investment Fund)
•The Angel Perspective: Insight into what they are looking for
•The Pitch and Process: What it takes to raise angel capital
•The Fine Print: The legal nitty gritty behind start-up investments
The workshops will be held on November 8th in Wellington and November 12th in Auckland at the Microsoft Office. Registrations need to be made through The Icehouse website:

Having invested in over 50 start-ups and advised many more, Bill Payne is an expert on start-up capital. He is in New Zealand to share his experience and knowledge with NZ investors, entrepreneurs and the wider start-up community.
Bill will be supported by leading New Zealand experts in the field of start-up capital including Chris Twiss, Director of the Seed co-investment Fund; entrepreneurs who have raised significant funding from angel investors around the world, members of the ICE Angel and Angel HQ investor groups and representatives from The Icehouse and Creative HQ.
