New World Wine Awards are more popular than ever
The New World Wine Awards Champion White Wine, Spy Valley Marlborough Chardonnay 2012, has nearly sold out in record
time since the awards were announced on 23 September.
As well as the requirement for wines entered in these awards to retail for $25 or less, another key criteria for entry
is that there must be at least 6,000 bottles available for sale to ensure wine lovers have a good chance of getting hold
of some.
“The fact that nearly 6,000 bottles of the Champion White have been snapped up so fast reflects the recognition among
consumers of the credibility of these awards for identifying top quality wines at affordable prices,” says Jim Harré,
Chairman of the judging panel.
The New World Wine Awards are judged by an independent panel of 13 expert wine judges using the same internationally
recognised 20-point system as other leading wine competitions, ensuring that winning wines are the best examples of
their type.
This year the New World Wine Awards received a record number of entries (1,099 wines), including more than 100 wines
from the eagerly anticipated 2013 vintage. There was a total of 607 medals awarded, the highest number of medals ever,
with 53 Gold, 122 Silver and 432 Bronze medal-winning wines giving consumers plenty of choice.
The good news for those who have missed out on a bottle of the Champion White Wine, is that there are lots of other
medal-winning wines available in 138 New World supermarkets nationwide, showcased in the New World Wine Awards 2013
booklet and online.
