An updated version of the well-known New Zealand commercial fish species poster will soon be featuring at a fish retailer near you.

It is just one part of a promotional campaign Healthy Fish launched today at the 2013 New Zealand Seafood Industry Conference by the Minister for Primary Industries, Nathan Guy.

Seafood New Zealand CEO, Tim Pankhurst says Healthy Fish promotes both the health and culinary benefits of eating fish, but also highlights the environmentally benign effect of the seafood industry.

“If people choose their food purchase on the basis of environmental impact, we want to reassure them that seafood is their first option,” he says.

Seafood New Zealand distributed the Healthy Fish posters to fish retailers around New Zealand last week.

“All the Healthy Fish promotional material has a QR code. You can use it with your ‘phone to get on-line information you’ll need to choose the right species, for whatever dish you might have in mind. It will tell you what time of the year it’s the best buy, as well as other information about the species,” Tim Pankhurst explains.

Nathan Guy was quick to load his cell ‘phone with the Healthy Fish QR code, calling it “a very snazzy ap for telling what the seafood industry is really like and an example of it raising its profile in recent times.”

And Nathan Guy’s favourite recipe from the on line selection? He told the conference that grilled snapper was the one that really caught his eye.

As well as the updated fish species posters, Healthy Fish recipe cards will feature in North Island New World and Pak n’ Save supermarkets during the next week or so.
