Whitianga to host inaugural Home & Trade Show
Hot on the heels of a successful Scallop Festival, the town is now gearing up to host their very first Home & Trade Show. To be held at the Whitianga Town Hall over Labour Weekend 2013, there’ll be a $1000 prize package being given away to one lucky attendee.
The 2 day event will be co-ordinated and run by Mercury Bay Events and is supported by Mercury Bay Business Association (MBBA) & TCDC. Labour Weekend was chosen for the first Show knowing that many non-resident home owners will come to their properties for the first time post winter – to get their homes ready for summer. There are 22 manned exhibition stands and a 10mtr “Trade Wall” displaying home owner products and services. Co-ordinator Fiona Kettlewell says “the call to local businesses to exhibit was greeted with great enthusiasm and we filled the stalls and Trade Wall extremely quickly. We’ve also got some great sponsorship to help bring it all together.” The Show aims is to get at least 800 people per day through the doors.
MBBA recognise that with Mercury Bay having a 64% non-resident population, the Show is aimed at providing property owners the opportunity to get up close and personal with local trade and service providers.
“It is important to showcase our businesses so that property owners know what products and services are available on their doorstep, they don’t need to bring it with them from Auckland or Hamilton. We hope this Show can provide growth to our businesses along with introducing more money into our community” says MBBA Secretary Helena Stratford.
Just as important is our resident community supporting our local businesses when thinking about updating or renovating their homes. “We’ll be involving our community through some cool competitions too” advises Fiona.
Mercury Bay is home to a myriad of businesses who provide home products and services such as electricians, plumbers and gas fitters, builders, fencers, garden & landscaping, kitchen, bathroom and building providers, along with retailers specialising in providing home furnishings & flooring and specialist services like architects, solar products, property management services and insurance providers. Council staff will also be present at the Show to assist with any property related queries.
The Show is a non-profit event with door takings going to Mercury Bay Events and Mercury Bay Community Patrol.
