Putting NZ dairy innovation on the world stage
New Zealand-owned dairy technology innovator, Waikato Milking Systems, will showcase its expertise in large-scale,
high-volume milking systems at the World Dairy Expo in the United States.
The 100% New Zealand-owned and operated company will display a selection of its products at the show, including products
specifically designed for high-producing, 24-hour dairy operations. The international show is in Madison, Wisconsin from
October 1 to 5.
“The World Dairy Expo attracts leading dairy operators from all over the globe. It is a great opportunity to put New
Zealand dairy innovation and technology on the world map,” Waikato Milking Systems Chief Executive Dean Bell says. “Our
rotary milking systems are known for being reliable and robust with very little maintenance required – ideal for
withstanding the rigours of 24 hour milking.”
Waikato Milking Systems is involved in more than 20 markets around the world, including countries that farm large
numbers of cows in containment. These countries include the United States and developing dairying nations such as China.
“These large-scale operators are milking thousands of cows a day, often three times a day, and they need milking systems
that are reliable, durable and low maintenance. That’s where we come in,” Mr Bell says.
“Waikato Milking Systems is known for producing one of the best rotary milking systems in the world. We have been in the
US market for many, many years and we are active in China - so we are very familiar with the demands of intensive
24-hour milking. We have responded to the challenges of these markets and adapted our designs to meet their needs,
retaining our core design philosophy of high strength and lightweight platforms.”
Rotary platforms from Waikato Milking Systems have a teardrop design in each stall that optimises cow flow. This design
keeps the overall building footprint smaller than an equivalent cabinet-style stall, reducing construction costs.
At the World Dairy Expo, Waikato Milking Systems will be showing one of its rotaries fitted with herd management
equipment from world-leading dairy automation experts, Afimilk of Israel. “We have partnered with Afimilk on many
installations around the world and we will be showing how easily their herd management software fits with our rotary
solution. This partnership approach gives farmers excellent integration and results,” Mr Bell says.
Waikato Milking Systems is the only 100% New Zealand-owned designer, manufacturer and exporter of dairy technology. It
is involved in all the leading dairying nations and has its own division in the United States - in Janesville, in the
dairy farming state of Wisconsin.
