Latest New Zealand Energy Quarterly released
Quarterly energy supply, demand, price and greenhouse gas statistics were published today in the latest edition of the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment’s New Zealand Energy Quarterly.
This quarter’s report found that gas production is at a 10 year high and renewable energy supplies are also on the rise.
“Geothermal generation rose to its highest level in 3 years” said MBIE’s Modelling and Sector Trends Manager Bryan Field.
“The rise was largely due to Mighty River Power’s Ngatamariki geothermal plant ramping up production in its commissioning phase.”
The electricity price rose 0.5% from the previous quarter and rose 3% from the same time last year.
“The rise over the last year is relatively low historically,” Mr Field said.
The New Zealand Energy Quarterly provides a quarterly update of energy statistics and trends on electricity generation; greenhouse gas emissions; the production and supply of oil, gas and coal; and petrol and diesel prices and importer margins.

The Ministry has today also released the Quarterly Survey of Domestic Electricity Prices which monitors changes in line and retail charges for a domestic consumer using 8,000 kWh a year.
