Farmax, Cashmanager Rural integration provides return to farmers
A new partnership between leading farm management software providers Farmax and Cashmanager Rural has given sheep and beef farmers the ability to share data quickly and easily between the two programs.
The integration eliminates the need for double-entry of livestock information, saving farmers time and providing greater data accuracy.
The first phase of integration is already in place for sheep and beef farmers, giving them the ability to import livestock sales and purchase transactions from Cashmanager Rural into Farmax, meaning users of both systems only have to enter the data once.
The companies will launch a second integration in the future, allowing farmers to share physical farm management data.
Wanstead farmer Ru Ormond is one of the farmers who helped test the new integration tools.
Ormond owns and operates an easy contour 430 hectares, where he has farmed for the past seven years mainly finishing stock. This year he is also lambing 1200 ewes to a terminal sire, and wintering 250 bulls and 150 yearlings.
Ormond said he’s used Cashmanager Rural for six years as his only accounting tool for budgeting and GST. Alongside it he’s been using Farmax for seven years.
“When I was starting out, Farmax made the farming system much clearer and made complex decisions simple. It has proven its worth time and time again, especially during droughts, when it allows me to make early and decisive decisions.”
He said the new integration between the two programs was a definite step in the right direction.
“The main benefit I’m experiencing is that the data imported into Farmax is absolutely accurate - when it was left to me to input it manually this wasn’t always the case. It will definitely save me time, as all sale and purchase data is at your fingertips in Cashmanager Rural,” said Ormond.
Cashmanager Rural Managing Director, Brian Eccles said, “The overwhelming majority of Farmax customers use Cashmanager Rural as their financial management suite of choice, and their feedback has mandated that the removal of double entry of data is the key issue they want to see resolved.”
A 2012 survey by Farmax revealed that around 65 per cent of sheep and beef farmers are frustrated by double-entering data into software programs and the lack of integration between systems.
As a result of the survey, Farmax, New Zealand’s leading supplier of decision support tools for the pastoral industry, approached Cashmanager Rural – the country’s leading supplier of farm financial software used by thousands of farmers and accountants nationwide.
The two companies have worked together for the past 12 months in what is believed to be an industry first. Both companies believe their partnership is a great example of a business-led and market-driven innovation – for the immediate benefit of farmers.
“Having to enter data twice into different systems means farmers are at their desks longer than necessary and away from doing other jobs on farm.
“In this day and age, with the technologies we have available to us, our companies believe there is no longer any excuse to make farmers enter data twice into a software application and we’re working together to do something about it,” said Gavin McEwen, General Manager, Farmax.
McEwen and Eccles said while their two programs are both very different and distinct resources for farmers, this was only the start of their work together and in future farmers will be able to share more livestock information between the programs.
“It’s only early days and we have prioritised the need to continue working together to expand the information that’s exchanged and share data so that it flows both ways,” said Mr McEwen.
