Kiwi First Hits Garden Centres This Week…
The incredible edibles® POTATO TOM™ will be released to garden centres early this week. A Kiwi first and potentially a world first at a
commercial level, the new concept by incredible edibles® brings a grafted tomato and potato together in one plant. This is the first time at a commercial level anyone has
delivered this concept to home gardeners in New Zealand. Andrew Boylan General Manager of Tharfield Nursery who produces
and markets the POTATO TOM™ says “The POTATO TOM™ has gone viral, we can’t believe the response. The phones have been
running hot with garden centres throughout New Zealand vying to get hold of this new and exciting concept”.
incredible edibles®who specialise in a wide range of edible plants such as blueberries, raspberries, and a host of fruit trees are always
looking for innovative and creative ideas to appeal to the home gardener. In 2012 incredible edibles® released the Feijoa Bambina™ which brought a dwarf Feijoa plant to the home gardener which was a huge success for those
with small backyards.
The POTATO TOM™ the latest of the range of products from incredible edibles® based in the Bay of Plenty will hit garden centres early this week. The new concept brings double the fun and
productivity to the home gardener by combining a juicy Gardeners Delight tomato and a crop of the popular eating potato
Agria from the one plant! As both potatoes and tomatoes are from the same family the two plants are graft compatible and
can therefore be grafted together, “it is the perfect combination that produces a good crop of both potatoes and
beautiful cherry tomatoes, you get tomatoes in summer, potatoes in autumn” said Boylan.
“We are confident this will be another hit with our customers as it ticks all the boxes, bringing fun, creativity and
double the productivity to the home gardener. We have had calls from those who have been gardening for decades, this
concept appeals to all sectors of the gardening public.” Boylan said.
